The NC General Assembly is wrapping up its budget plan for 2019-2020, but elected officials still haven’t taken action to close the health insurance coverage gap in North Carolina.
As you may know, last year, more than 40% of health center patients statewide – or 236,000 patients – were uninsured and this bill could provide health insurance for many of them. If even half of community health center patients who are currently uninsured gained coverage, they could access needed specialty care services and health centers would be able to expand services available to all North Carolinians.
House Bill 655 –NC Health Care for Working Families– would make affordable insurance coverage available to adults in North Carolina who are working and make less than 133% of the federal poverty guidelines (approximately $16,612 annually). Strong support for this bill would help move North Carolina towards a solution for the more than 300,000 uninsured adults with low incomes.
